If children and young people do not get on well with the school system or drop out, there can be various reasons for this. In order to understand this, each case must be viewed individually. A distinction is made between family, social, school and individual risk factors that can prevent school attendance. In most cases, absence from school cannot be attributed to one cause alone.
The new re:school advice center has been a city-wide offering in a professionally working network since November 2023. It combines individual help and low-threshold offers with preventive activities and programs and supports students in the city of Leipzig, their parents, relatives and specialist staff in preventing permanent school refusal or dropping out of school or in regaining regular participation in classes. We advise primarily on the topics of school absenteeism, school avoidance and fear of school, but also provide support on all other topics that ensure school success.
Our offers include:

• Case consultations for specialists
• Parent information evenings
• a space and support offer for self-help groups
We work both in the rooms of our advice center on Eisenbahnstrasse and mobile at all types of schools run by the city of Leipzig. We are subject to confidentiality and provide further help if necessary. Our consultations are free, voluntary and anonymous upon request.

Do you regularly switch off at school, miss lessons more and more often or no longer take part in school life at all? Do you feel bad when you think about school? Then please contact us and we will try to help you find a solution that is right for you.
For professionals
Dear professionals, school refusal is an increasingly important topic. By recognizing distance from school at an early stage and taking appropriate action, the perpetuation of school-avoiding behavior can be counteracted. We would like to help you notice these first signs. For this purpose, we are developing training courses that are intended to give you the basics of preventing school avoidance. In addition to early detection, we also advise in cases where the distance from school is already advanced. The consultations are confidential and can also take place on site.
For parents and guardians
Dear parents and guardians, re:school offers you a point of contact if you are concerned about your child's behavior at school. We support you in understanding the causes of fear or avoidance of school and in finding solutions together. If necessary, we can also provide additional offers of help. Please feel free to come to us for confidential advice.
